Maybe FNPS might start funding lichen studies? We should to consider it at least. I've been told in the past that FNPS doesn't because "lichens are not plants", which is true, but lichens are interacting intimately with the plant communities, whether encrusting, growing epiphytical, or competing with plants for space on the ground.
